Clopay torsion spring replacement in Las Vegas typically runs $180 – $340 installed, depending on spring size, wire gauge, and cycle rating. We stock Clopay-compatible springs on our trucks and can usually complete the swap the same day you call. Most homeowners discover the failure the same way: a slam in the night that sounds like someone dropped a toolbox off the roof, followed by a door that won’t budge and a visible two-piece spring above the door. If that’s you, this page explains exactly what failed, what it costs to fix, and how fast we can get it done.
Which Clopay Models This Applies To
Virtually every Clopay residential sectional door made in the last 25 years uses a torsion spring system mounted on a steel tube above the opening. That includes the flagship Gallery, Coachman, Grand Harbor, Value Plus, Classic, and Premium series, plus most builder-grade models installed in Las Vegas tract homes from the mid-90s onward. Clopay stamps a model number sticker on the end stile near the bottom panel or on the track flag bracket. But the sticker alone won’t tell you the spring spec, and that’s the compatibility gotcha: the spring must match the door’s exact weight, height, and cable drum, not just the brand name. A spring spec’d for a 7-ft Gallery door will not balance a 8-ft Coachman safely. Clopay doesn’t sell direct to homeowners either. You’re buying through a dealer or a service company like us, and we spec the replacement spring by measuring the old one’s wire diameter, inside diameter, length, and wind direction, then matching those to the door weight. We install genuine Clopay-spec springs or quality Made-in-USA equivalents. Both hold the same cycle ratings. The difference is availability and price; the OE spring carries the Clopay stamp, the equivalent saves $30 – $50 on the part. Jaylen Ross has been matching Clopay springs for over a decade and can tell you in two minutes whether a cheap lookalike will last or fail early.

Signs Your Clopay Torsion Spring Replacement Is Failing
- Loud crack or bang from the garage. This is the spring snapping under tension. It’s the #1 symptom and impossible to miss, especially at night when the temperature drops and the steel gives way.
- Door feels suddenly heavy or won’t lift by hand. One broken spring means the other (if you have a two-spring system) is now doing double duty. You’ll feel the extra weight immediately, and the opener spindle and gears will strain harder than they should.
- A visible gap in the coil above the middle of the door. Look up at the horizontal bar. A clean two-inch gap between coil sections is the broken spring. If you have a single-spring system, the whole door drops to one side when disconnected from the opener.
- Door opens a foot and stops, or opens crooked. The still-working spring can’t carry the full door weight evenly. This strains the track, the cables, and the opener rail. Every cycle you run the door like this is doing more damage.
- Grinding or popping while opening. A snapped spring can catch on the torsion tube or winding cone. That grinding sound is metal on metal, and it means the remaining spring is now overloaded and closer to its own failure.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Las Vegas, Clopay torsion spring replacement runs $180 – $340 installed. The range depends on four things: spring wire gauge (thicker wire costs more, lasts longer), inside diameter (2″ vs 2-5/8″ vs 3-1/2″), the number of springs (single vs double), and the cycle rating you choose. Here’s the breakdown:
- Standard 10,000-cycle Clopay-compatible spring: $180 – $260 installed
- High-cycle 25,000 – 30,000-cycle spring: $260 – $340 installed
- Two-spring system replacement (both springs): add $80 – $120 to the single-spring price
The price includes the part, the full labor to wind and balance the spring, and a safety check of the cables, drums, and door alignment while we’re up there. You get the written price before anything starts, and every part and labor hour is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If that spring fails inside a year, we come back and fix it free. That’s in writing.
DIY or Call Us?
Torsion springs carry enough stored energy to remove fingers, break bone, or worse. This is not a YouTube tutorial situation. What you can safely do: visually confirm the spring snapped (the gap above the door), disconnect the opener and test the door weight by hand, and snap a photo for us. What you should not do: touch the winding cone, remove the cables, or loosen any bolt on that center bracket. The winding cone is under 20 to 30 full turns of torque even after the spring breaks. There are two steel rods we use to wind these, and one wrong move with a screwdriver can remove a finger before you feel the pain. Call (725) 373-9798 and let a trained tech handle it. We’re a real person on the phone, 24/7, and most Clopay spring swaps are done in under an hour.
FAQs
Clopay torsion springs are rated in cycles, not years. A standard builder-grade spring lasts about 10,000 cycles, which in Las Vegas is roughly 7 to 10 years of normal use. In Las Vegas heat, the steel doesn’t wear faster from temperature itself, but garage doors here get cycled more often, especially in summer when the door is an extra room for storage. High-cycle replacements we install carry 25,000 – 30,000 cycle ratings. Call (725) 373-9798 and we’ll tell you the cycle rating on your current spring.
No. A torsion spring that has snapped cannot be welded, spliced, or reconnected. The steel has fatigued through its rated cycles and the only safe fix is a full replacement matched to the door weight and height. We can usually reuse the torsion tube and brackets if they’re in good shape.
Most single-spring replacements take 45 to 60 minutes on site once the tech arrives. Two-spring systems run closer to 90 minutes. We carry a range of springs on the truck, so there’s rarely a second trip. Call (725) 373-9798 and we’ll tell you the real arrival window, live, while you watch the tech come to you.
Yes. We stock Clopay-compatible torsion springs in the most common wire gauges and inside diameters used in Las Vegas. We also carry parts for LiftMaster, Chamberlain, and Genie openers, so if the spring took out your opener’s travel limits along the way we can handle that too. Call (725) 373-9798 for a free estimate.
No. The written price we give you before any work starts is the price you pay. We may adjust the estimate up or down based on spring gauge or the number of springs, but you agree to the number before a wrench turns. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers every part and every hour of labor on that invoice. Call (725) 373-9798 and you’ll get the same number, in writing, before anything starts.
