Genie Roller Replacement: The Las Vegas Owner’s Guide

Genie roller replacement in Las Vegas typically runs $110 – $220 installed, and we stock compatible rollers on our trucks for same-day swaps in most cases. That number includes the parts, the labor, and the written price you’ll approve before we touch the door. Most homeowners discover the problem the same way: a grinding sound when the door moves, a visible wobble mid-travel, or one roller that’s shed its nylon casing and left the metal bearing chewing through the track.

We’re an independent service provider – not affiliated with Genie directly – but we service Genie doors every week across Las Vegas, Summerlin, Henderson, and North Las Vegas. Rollers are one of the most common wear items on a Genie system, and the good news is they’re also one of the most straightforward fixes we do.

Which Genie Models This Applies To

Most Genie residential garage doors built in the last 25 years use a standard 7/16-inch or 11/16-inch roller stem, depending on whether the door runs on a single-car or double-car track profile. The compatibility gotcha that trips up a lot of Las Vegas owners: Genie’s IntelliG and SilentMax series doors lean toward nylon-capped rollers with sealed ball bearings, while older Genie ProMax and Excelerator-era doors often ran steel rollers from the factory. Swapping a steel-bearing roller into a track system designed for nylon causes excess wear on the track edge within months, especially in the dry, dusty conditions we get out here.

When we arrive, we check the roller stem diameter, the track curve profile, and the hinge stamp before pulling the replacement. You don’t need to know any of that, but it’s why we don’t hand you a one-size-fits-all part and hope for the best. For Genie doors specifically, OEM rollers are solid, but quality aftermarket nylon rollers with 6200-series sealed bearings (the same spec used in premium Clopay and Amarr hardware) actually outlast the originals in our experience. We carry both. If you have a LiftMaster or Chamberlain opener on the same door, that’s fine – rollers are door-side hardware, not opener-side, and we keep those brands covered too.

Signs Your Genie Roller Replacement Is Failing

Rollers fail in stages. Catch them early and you’ll avoid track damage that turns a $150 parts job into a $400 rail replacement.

  • Grinding or metal-on-metal noise during travel. The nylon casing has worn through, and the steel bearing inside is now scraping the track. This is the most common call we get from Las Vegas homeowners, and the most common culprit is a 10-year-old set of factory rollers. The fix is straightforward: replace all the rollers, not just the noisy one, so the door doesn’t start wearing unevenly.
  • The door wobbles or shudders as it raises. One or more roller stems have play in the hinge, either from a worn stem or a hinge barrel that’s ovaled out. The door leans slightly left or right as it moves. Replacing just the roller often fixes it; if the hinge is chewed up too, that’s a $20 to $40 add-on part we carry.
  • A chirping or rhythmic squeak that increases with door speed. This usually means a sealed bearing has lost its grease and is running dry. Nevada’s heat bakes out lubricant faster than coastal climates. We’ve seen factory rollers in Summerlin make this sound at seven years when the same roller in San Diego would’ve hit twelve.
  • Visible flat spots or missing chunks on the roller wheel. That’s a hardened nylon wheel that’s been rolling across a rail with micro-debris in it. It looks like a bald tire. Any roller showing flat spots is done; it’s already transferring impact into the panel hinges.
  • A roller that has jumped out of the track. This one is dangerous. The door can bind, tilt, and drop. If you see this, don’t run the door. Call us. The fix typically involves replacing the roller, realigning the track, and checking the rear hangers. It’s also where a DIY attempt goes from “minor repair” to “door comes off the wall” fast.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Las Vegas, you’ll pay $110 – $220 to have us replace your Genie door rollers, and the spread comes down to three things: how many rollers your door runs (10 is typical, some wider doors use 12), whether we’re installing standard nylon or premium sealed-bearing rollers, and whether the hinges are in good enough shape to reuse. Most jobs land right around $160 – $180 for a full set of sealed-bearing rollers on a double door.

Job Type Typical Las Vegas Price
Full roller replacement (10 rollers, standard nylon) $110 – $170
Full roller replacement (sealed-bearing, premium) $150 – $220
Single roller replacement (labor trip included) $80 – $120
Add-on hinge replacement (per hinge, if needed) $20 – $40

Every price gets written down before we start. You’ll see the number, you’ll approve it, and the invoice at the end matches it. That’s the Relay Standard, and it’s not a courtesy – it’s how we’ve operated since Jaylen Ross founded Marlow in 2002. The work itself carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the rollers fail or the repair isn’t right within a year, we come back and make it right at no charge. In writing.

DIY or Call Us?

Here’s the honest split. You can safely inspect your Genie rollers from inside the garage – look for flat spots, listen for the grind, watch for wobble. You can even identify which roller is bad by pulling the disconnect cord and moving the door by hand. That diagnosis is free and it helps us quote you more accurately over the phone.

But the actual swap is where it goes sideways. The roller stem sits inside the hinge under load. On Genie doors with older extension springs, the bottom bracket holds serious tension. Pop the wrong bolt and the door drops. In Las Vegas, we regularly see DIY roller jobs that ended with a bent track section, a cracked panel, or a homeowner nursing a hand injury from a 160-pound door. The replacement isn’t expensive. The labor is quick. Call (725) 373-9798 and we’ll give you a written price before anyone climbs a ladder. Tell you what’s broken, tell you the price, fix it right – that’s the whole job.
